Research

The Foundation was established to promote research performed by General Surgeons and General Surgery Residents in both clinical and basic science. The Foundation currently funds research projects as well as the sponsorship of a Research Retreat for Residents in General Surgery. These grants are adjudicated by the Canadian Association of General Surgery Research Committee and presented to the winners at the annual Canadian Surgery Forum.

What Grant Recipients Have to Say...

Dr. Gabriel Chan, Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, Renal transplantation, Clinical researcher.

2012 Grant Recipient

The Foundation grant was immensely helpful at the beginning of my career. The seeding grant got the project going and we have produced 5 papers, with at least one more to come. Several papers have also been produced at our collaborator-programmes. Some researchers from major departments have big labs and national grants, but others do not have access to such resources. Good ideas can come from many places. Getting the work done can be arduous, but this grant from the Foundation can certainly bridge some of the gaps.
